Facebook has recently responded to requests for better targeting and more intelligence by introducing ways to target posts, remove posts that are no longer relevant, and identify popular link that you haven’t shared on your page. These new features will be nice additions to your Facebook Marketing Strategy.
Interest Targeting: Allows you to target smaller subsets of your fans who have expressed a specific interest in a precise topic. For example, ESPN could make a post about Derek Jeter and target Yankees Fans.
Post End Date: Allows you to specify a date and time for your post to end in order to eliminate people from seeing out of date posts in their feeds. This does not remove the post from your page, but simply removes it from being seen in the newsfeed.
Smart Publishing: Allows you to identify and publish stories that are popular on Facebook. Once you enable the setting, frequently shared links to your website can appear in News Feeds for people who like your page. The new tool won’t push the identified article to your Page, but rather the stories identified by Facebooks algorithms will be displayed directly in your fans’ News Feed.
Improvements to Insights: Facebook has amped up its Domain Insights tool offering more in-depth URL level reporting. Now you can see referral traffic to your site from Facebook as well as an audience breakdown that extends to fans friends that share articles. More data is always a good thing.
As always, Facebook is improving and adjusting as their customers request more functionality.
