I’m proud to announce Crowd Seats, my first startup and the only daily deals site for sports tickets, has been acquired by a heavily funded venture-backed competitor.
Crowd Seats was created to help sports fans attend more games at reasonable prices with zero fees. Before Crowd Seats, fans were faced with the fact that average ticket prices increased over 100% since 2000. On top of rising ticket prices, ticket fees became the norm, adding 10-25% to the ticket price. Fans wanted fair ticket pricing without the fees – and that’s exactly what we provided.
We helped tens of thousands of sports fans see their favorite teams live – and we did it on the cheap. Every single ticket we sold on Crowd Seats was significantly discounted below box office pricing without a single fee. We think it worked pretty well – a few years after launch, many of the top ticket providers dropped their fees completely. Imitation truly is the sincerest form of flattery.
